President Museveni Thursday said bars will be opened when a vaccine is found.
According to the president, drunkards cannot be trusted to observe Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and this may escalate the spread of Coronavirus which has infected 39,685 Ugandans and killed 327 since March last year when the virus outbreak was confirmed.
“There were some ideas that we open bars and our batamivvu (drunkards) be served from outside where they can observe SOPs. But I don’t know whether drunkards are reliable partners in some of these arrangements. Even if you say we keep the distance will the drunkards adhere! The safest thing is to get a vaccine such that whatever these drunkards do, they remain safe. You may say bars open but serve from outside, but these are drunkards; they are not sober,” the president said.
He made the remarks while addressing Ugandans on the reopening of schools for semi candidates on March 1, 2021.
